From the Pontine Marshes, with love
A new campaign is yet to be launched in a joint venture between Tree Building and the East Side craft beer brewery!
Sharing the roots in the Pontine Marshes, our founder Gabriele and the East Side’s brewmasters are willing to promote citizen based tree-planting in the region distributing a carob flavoured beer next winter.
But those exquisite chocolate-flavoured pods will be some quite special ones: not just raw materials from an anonymous marketplace, but a product of urban food forestry made by Gabriele himself when – back in 2012 – he replaced a couple of poorly managed oleanders in a public square in the Rione Isonzo neighbourhood in Latina (70km south of Rome, Italy) with carob trees that now stand more than 6 meters tall, and just less than 3km from the brewery!
Resilience through decentralization
Proximity between production hubs and end consumers—whether businesses or citizens—will be a critical driver in combating global warming, reducing industrial pollution, and cutting shipping costs. Decentralizing production and shortening supply chains directly minimizes freight miles, fuel consumption, and transit-related carbon emissions. Beyond these environmental and financial benefits, localized production fosters nationwide supply-chain resilience. By reducing reliance on long-distance logistics and volatile international corridors, domestic networks become far better equipped to absorb sudden shocks triggered by economic crises, geopolitical friction, or climate-driven natural disasters.
Promoting urban forestry
To foster a deeper appreciation for urban forestry and sustainable agriculture among our community, we’re willing to gift customers native carob tree seeds to plant in their own gardens and green spaces near home. Each seed planted serves a dual purpose: it acts as a localized carbon sink to help mitigate climate change, while reviving a remarkable, climate-resilient superfood that has been unfairly overlooked in modern cuisine.
In a season or so, we’ll be glad to be back on you with new developments of this initiative.
